Through the Parliamentary Precinct Branch, Public Works and Government Services Canada manages the buildings on Parliament Hill and a number of other buildings throughout the Parliamentary Precinct.
It is our job to ensure that the Parliamentary Precinct–the home of Canada's legislature and a symbol of peace and democracy–is properly maintained and preserved for parliamentarians and visitors alike by providing sound stewardship on behalf of Canadians.
Many of the buildings on Parliament Hill and throughout the Parliamentary Precinct are over a century old and need to be modernized to bring them into the 21st century. Public Works and Government Services Canada has established the Long Term Vision and Plan (LTVP) as a strategy for the rehabilitation and development of the Parliamentary Precinct. The LTVP establishes a coordinated approach to the restoration and modernization of the Parliament Buildings over the next 20 years. This plan was developed in collaboration with our partners–the Senate, the House of Commons and the Library of Parliament.
Our team of real property professionals specializes in accommodations, architecture, engineering, heritage preservation and asset and facility management–talents needed to ensure that these historic and national treasures are preserved for all to enjoy. The Department is involved in all aspects of the Precinct: from the day-to-day maintenance of the buildings to the planning and implementation of new construction projects.
