Seismic Testing Partnership

A West Block wall replica is tested at the
University of Calgary seismic research facility

Public Works and Government Services Canada – in partnership with the Intelligent Sensing for Innovative Structures Canada Research Network and the universities of Calgary, Manitoba and Alberta – is currently completing a leading-edge research on masonry and seismic reinforcement methodologies for heritage masonry walls. Their findings will assist the West Block rehabilitation team help the buildings better withstand seismic shocks, like tremors and earthquakes. The findings will also be shared with governments and experts around the world so that other important heritage buildings can be protected and preserved.
