Ironwork

Intricate and striking, the ironwork that adorns the copper roofs of the Library of Parliament had deteriorated considerably since its last repair in the 1950s. The crowning element is a gold-tipped weathervane that perches atop the lantern.

The weathervane itself received careful restorative treatment as part of the renewal project, being stripped bare of existing paint, repaired, x-rayed, pressure tested, and repainted in ultramarine blue with gold highlights. The other exterior ironwork elements were painted in the same colour scheme, which experts determined to have been originally applied when the Library was first built.
