Restoring the Hill

In 2001, Public Works and Government Services Canada, along with its partners from the House of Commons, the Senate and other organizations such as the National Capital Commission, developed a vision for the Parliamentary Precinct and began doing the most critical work while setting clear priorities for the years to come.

Since 2007, the Department has restored buildings in the Parliamentary Precinct that support the relocation of parliamentarians and staff from the main Parliament Buildings. This approach aims to minimize disruptions to Parliament, enabling its important work to continue.

The Department has already completed 15 major projects on time and on budget. These milestones allow work to begin on the main Parliament Buildings, starting with the West Block.

The sequencing of the work is determined by risk assessments, with the most urgently needed work beginning first.
